Rehab & Sanctuary Horses

Above & Below are pictures of Moses the day he came to UAWR

Below are pictures of Moses 2 months after he came to UAWR.

Moses March 2012

Moses

Moses was found wandering the street of Bakersfield where he was picked up by animal control. There were many people who rallied for poor Moses to help find him a safe place to go. With the support of several people he came here to UAWR. We are not sure what he has been through or experienced in his life other then obvious and severe neglect and starvation. He has turned out to be the sweetest horse you ever met and he LOVES kids!! The shelter vet and our vet both agree that he is 30+ years old but to see him now there is so much life left in him and he truly is enjoying working with the kids and being ever so kind to them all....

Moses need a sponsor to help with his Special Needs. He requires joint supplement, senior feed, and a strictly pellets only diet.

Thank you Mary!! She helped with a partial sponsorship for Moses March 2012

Cayman

Is a Thoroughbred who once was a race horse. He is now long retired from the race track and is retired here at UAWR. He is very sweet and we adopted him out 2 separate times where he became very unruly and dangerous so we have made the decision that it was best for him to stay here with us where he seems to be happy.

Simon

11 year old Warmblood gelding. Simon has a bone spur in his neck due to a possible previous jumping accident and injury. He is a pasture pet only and can NOT be ridden at all. Simon is here at UAWR in Sanctuary to live out the rest of his years.

Nikki

13 year old Mustang Mare. Niki has been with UAWR for many years as she is a "difficult" to adopt horse and has confidence issues. She is available for adoption but would be very difficult to find the "right" home for her with someone who can handle her without getting hurt. Until that time she is a resident of UAWR.

High Side

High Side is a 11 year old Thoroughbred gelding who raced 44 times with his last race at Los Alamitos in 2007. He has stifle issues and will remain with UAWR for the remainder of his life due to the needed consistent rehab, and Chiropractic care that is needed in order to maintain his stifle.

Dakota

Dakota is an 18 year old BLM Mustang gelding that was rounded up by the BLM at the age of 12 years and then gelded and sold outright with no contract or protection as to where he would end up . He was found less then a year after hie sale at a Feedlot in Nevada and was only hours away from being put on the truck headed to slaughter. Dakota was saved thankfully to Shirley who helped raise the funds to get his bail paid to have him pulled off the feedlot and transported down here to UAWR. Dakota has been here since. Initially we were able to gentle him enough to remove a halter that had grown into his face and work with him a small amount. Due to a car accident our president who had been the one to work with him and bond with him was not able to work with him for over a year and recently he was sent to a professional trainer where Dakota decided he did not want any part of their ideas of domestication and tried to hurt anyone who attempted to work with him by biting at them and kicking at them.  Dakota has returned here to UAWR in hope to find a sanctuary to provide a forever home for him, but in the meantime he has been given a large turnout type area which we are working to make even larger and attempt to provide the best "wild" type setting for him as possible. We would like to provide the best and largest setting for Dakota as possible to live his remaining days out here with us as close to "wild" as we can.

Dakota needs a sponsor for fencing to create an even larger turn out area for him as well a sponsors to provide for his feed and care.

Merlin

19 year old Arabian Stallion. Merlin is not broke to ride and due to his age and other health issues we have been hesitant to have him gelded. He has remained here at UAWR at this time until we can make a decision on having him gelded and the safety of such surgery due to health reason. When and If he ever is gelded he will be available for adoption as a pasture pet only. He gets along with other gelding very well and would make a great companion.

Victor

Victor is approx 22 year old Arabian Gelding. He originally found himself homeless when his owner passed away and the family property was being sold and Victor has no where to live. Victor then moved on to become a wonderful kids riding horse and was doing gymkanna and wons TONS of ribbons and prizes, and even won CGA State High Point Championship Saddle. (see pic) Now in 2012 Victor can no longer keep up with the rigorous duties of being a gymkhana horse and cantering has become an issue for him he is now here with us at UAWR and he will be used for the children at Footprints Therapeutic Riding Center to ride at a walk and some trotting only at this time and he will remain here with us until the end of his days.

Victor needs a sponsor to help with his special needs. He requires joint supplements, senior feed, and a strictly pellets only diet.

Thank you to all those who have helped donate towards Victor's Care:

The Derloshon Family

The Chiate Family

The Pierce Family

The Almon Family

The Arnold Family

He is completely sponsored for April, May, & June of 2012 but is still in need of a sponsor for July-Dec 2012
